Transformers

Transformers Wiki defines transformers thus: The Transformers are a species of sentient, living robotic beings (mostly) originating from the distant machine world of Cybertron. The stories of their lives, their histories, and most especially their wars have been chronicled across many different continuities in the vast multiverse. The designation "Transformer" stems from the species' generally-shared ability to transform, to change their bodies at will, rearranging their component parts from a robotic primary mode (usually, but not always, humanoid) into an alternate form; generally vehicles, weapons, machinery, or animals. In some continuities this ability to transform is innate to all members of the species, in others it was a wartime innovation that was adopted by most, but not all, of the populace. Hollywood came out with the movie ‘Transformer’ in the year 3007.  The movie was a smash hit among especially among the kids. Due to the success of this m...

Secularism/Sickularism

Secularism/Sickularism George Holyoake coined the term secularism in an 1896 publication (Holyoake, George J. (1896). English Secularism. Chicago: The Open Court Publishing Company) where he defines secularism as: Secularism is a code of duty pertaining to this life, founded on considerations purely human, and intended mainly for those who find theology indefinite or inadequate, unreliable or unbelievable. Its essential principles are three:  (1) The improvement of this life by material means. (2) That science is the available Providence of man. (3) That it is good to do good. Whether there be other good or not, the good of the present life is good, and it is good to seek that good. With the Modi vs Nitish show down the question of secularism again has raised its ugly head. To begin with let us try to understand secularism in the Indian context as it does not in any way pertains to its original definition cited above. What does that mean to a com...

The student community of NIT Silchar

The student community of NIT Silchar NIT Silchar is an institute of excellence in the north eastern part of India where we get students from all the different parts of India and some from abroad too. These students get admitted here after a rigorous elimination test called AIEEE. Globalized Indians

Globalization - Students and Changing Attitudes. Throughout history it has been found that changes are ushered by the youth. And what better represents the youth of the day than the students. Students today are a community who are directly exposed to the means and also to the ends of “Globalization.” With the advent of new information technology, industrial production and liberalized world trade, drastic changes are happening around us and they have a multidimensional effect on the entire population as a whole and students in particular. The society is changing in different directions because of variations in local resources and local conditions brought in as effects of globalization. Globalization is not as new concept and the arrival of Aryans in India is also considered by many as globalization. Some others visualize the voyages of Columbus, Marco Polo and Vasco da Gama as steps towards globalization. In the early stages of history the agents of globalization were traders, prea...

Men In (Black and) blue.

Today many Indians are shattered, angered, frustrated, disgusted, bemused, and confused. The country is trying hard to cope up with a tragedy which has severely affected most Indians, both physically as well as psychologically. People of India have successfully endured natural disasters like earthquakes, floods, droughts and tsunamis. They did not succumb to the Kargil war, Gujarat riots and the Bombay blasts. But this tragedy is awesome, its colossal. It has reduced the ‘Shining- Feel Good Indian’ to a ‘Common Man’. It has affected the ‘Global Indian’ in such a local way that the entire nation is in mourning. How could India be ousted of the Cricket World Cup so early? – This is the burning question the Nation is facing today.
